Do you care about looking like a tourist when you travel or do you try to dress like the locals?

In my limited travel so far , I usually try to avoid sticking out as the obvious American by avoiding shorts, sandals, college branded items, etc.

I’m about to embark on a long solo trip and I’m wondering if it’s worth it to alter my wardrobe for the entire trip. I know I’m still going to stick out as a tourist but I still want to try to blend in as much as possible.

So I’m curious how much y’all care about this when you travel. Do you really try to dress like a local or just accept that everybody knows you are a tourist and not sweat it?

Thanks!
