January-February 2023… Crowded SE Asia or cold Eastern Europe?

Hey everyone,

I’m going to solo travel for five weeks at the beigining of next year. I really want to do Southeast Asia or Eastern Europe but obviously both will have pros and cons for going at this time of year. Eastern Europe will be cold at this time of year but probably less crowded as it’s off season. The weather in Southeast Asia will be great but it’s peak season so things will probably be pretty crowded.

I have done my research and not many people in this subreddit talk specifically about the weather in Eastern Europe. For those that have traveled during these months, how did the cold weather affect you in Eastern Europe?

And for those that went peak season before Covid, did the crowds make your experience worse in SE Asia? I know the world could still be affected by Covid next year but it seems more and more likely it’ll be closer to back to normal. Woud you recommend waiting on a SE Asia trip until I can go when it won’t be peak season?

For context, I have plenty of money saved for the trip so it’s not a concern and I’m 23M.
