Leaving for South America in a week for a 6 Month trip. Low-key freaking out about gear and weight.

Hey guys I’m leaving on my long awaited backpacking trip starting in Cartagena next week. Now the way I want to do this trip is by doing 60-75% of it at hostels and the rest camping but due to that fact I am starting to really come up in weight and fully packing my bag to the brim I’m starting to get worried.

My pack is a 60L Granite Gear Blaze . Absolutely love the pack and have taken it out in many excursions in the PNW. But I’m starting to wonder if its just too much. Because of the large minority of time I’ll be spending camping on my trip I’m packing my 3-4 season tent, 15 degree down sleeping bag, and the rest of my camping essentials. And then since I’m going down the entirety of the continent I am also packing gear for warm and cold weather plus one pair of jeans . I also have a pair of Chocos and then Oboz ankle high top hiking boots . Now I put this all together with no other electronics except for my Sony A7R IV with the Tamron 35-150, my Galaxy Fold 3 , and my kindle.

All of this gear puts me at 38 pounds which I can do. I’ve done 55 before on a 7 day hike on the PCT although it was not comfortable. But I’m concerned with the elevations in the Andes for my hikes if this is just too much weight especially since I haven’t been regularly hiking since before COVID. And also how annoying is this pack gonna be when I’m traveling in the city?

If anyone could help give me some pointers here I would really appreciate it. Am I missing the point here? Could I do without the camping gear and rent if I’m trying to go that much? Will I hate myself both on the trails and in the city if I carry this thing? Any response would be greatly helpful as my flight leaves on the 15th. Thanks guys!
