Question on Lake Atitlan and hiking Acatenango Volcano

Hello All,

I’m planning a week trip to Guatemala for 7 days in mid-August. I have a couple of questions for those who’ve been there. I’m thinking of spending the first two nights in Antigua and the rest in Lake Atitlan, and do day trips to Chichicastenango, Quetzaltenango etc.

1. How’s the weather in August, is it going to be misty the whole time?
2. I’m interested in hiking Acatenango Volcano but all the hikes seem to be overnight. Is it possible to do this hike as a day trip? If it’s an overnight hike, is it safe?
3. Is it worth doing a day trip to Monterrico from Antigua?
4. Where is a good town to stay in Lake Atitlan? I’ve read that San Pedro or Panajachel are good locations. I would prefer staying in a touristy town.

Any feedback is much appreciated, please share any tips that may be helpful as well. Thank you!
