Tips for a relaxing weekend in the French Alps?

Hi! I’m going to a conference next week in Les Houches and I’m super excited. Since I’ll be working during the week, this is a different type of trip than what I usually plan. I purchased flights that arrive in Geneva a couple days early so I can adjust to the time change. I’d like to have a relaxing weekend in one of the mountain towns along the train route between Geneva and Charmonix but I’m having trouble deciding on which one.

Ideally the town I’d stay in would have something to get me outside during the day such as a picturesque, low intensity hike or a cute town center/local tourist spot/museum. I’d like to be able to pick up some bread and cheese at a market for lunch and eat local cuisine at a restaurant for dinner.

The information I’ve found on things to do and places to eat along this route is rather sparse, so any suggestions you have are greatly appreciated.
