27f here don’t have family and instead of sitting home bummed while friends are with theirs I booked a solo trip around Europe for all of December – New Years. This is my second solo trip after a two week trip to Ireland. I’ll be staying in hostels during my trip and my itinerary is super loose so I can bop around based on how I’m feeling once I arrive.
I’m curious to hear from peoples travel experiences during the holidays, I’m prepared to spend Xmas / much of the time alone but would love to meet people to share some of the holiday with. Did you find that there’s not many solo travelers during this time / it was very hard to meet people? Did you meet others who maybe didn’t have family? Did you find people more or less socially welcoming? Any positive experiences to share?
I’m excited for my trip and it’s sort of a way for me to reclaim what is often a painful time of year for me as a celebration of resilience and an opportunity to make new memories and traditions. Im very friendly and make connections easily but am slightly nervous that this is a strange time to travel, I’m sure much of this depends on where you are traveling. If you’ve had a similar experience did you ultimately enjoy it?
Thanks! I love this sub
